San Mateo County runs the Nutrition Programs for Older Adults, which distributeS nutritious meals via several group dining sites. HART serves seniors over the age of 50 through a network of their peers, who work on a volunteer basis. HART provides help with transportation, shelter and food, and it is a source of in-home support services. Assistance with recreational activities and health and wellness is also available. The SASH program connects volunteer shoppers with homebound seniors who can cook for themselves. The program's volunteers take orders from seniors, go shopping and deliver groceries on weekly and biweekly schedules. Groceries are delivered the day after each order is placed. Seniors pay for the groceries, but there is no additional fee.
