Mom was at DM from late 2015 until she passed from Covid19 in April. Dad was here for a few months in 2016. Both were in skilled nursing/rehab. We brought our parents here because of the location and that we'd never heard anything bad about it. At first it looked nice inside and out, but it went downhill. We didn't know at first that it had recently become a for profit facility that made huge cutbacks in staff, budgets and equipment. We soon brought in our own private aides 24/7 because of not enough staff and very few who actually seem to care. I can only speak for our wing but over the years there've been very few good nurses and cna's and those really good ones became frustrated. I've seen nurses give the wrong meds, in the wrong format, or in the wrong eye. Many nurses and cna's are from agencies or other floors so don't know the residents. There is constant staff turnover. They argue amongst themselves in front of the residents, and generally ignore them all day other than to do the most basic care functions with them. Few show any warmth or compassion or treat the residents like real human beings. Most cna's resented our private aides and gave them a hard time. They'd run out of supplies like diapers and for 3 days during the start of covid19 there was no hand soap in the rooms. Staff are not treated well, they're angry, frustrated and it shows. Therapy staff complained of lack of equipment. Communication is terrible. Social workers burn out quickly and leave. Many management and supervisors don't back up their staff. In my Mom's case it once prolonged a particularly gruesome medical emergency when a nursing supervisor refused 5 times to answer our nurse's pleas for her to come help. At least the rooms are nice, both Mom and Dad had private rooms, Mom's overlooking a nice courtyard. Despite a very low budget there are still activities, exercise classes, trips, and a van to take residents to nearby doctor appointments. There are a few truly wonderful people on staff who were always kind and helpful to us. I wish I could recommend DM but overall we were very disappointed.
