Central Home Health Care, An Amedisys Company

I frequently write reviews about companies and the vast majority of them are positive. This one is the biggest exception. Amedisys Home Health Care is, simply put, the worst company I have ever had experience with in all my life. My mother (age 101) was referred for wrapping and care of her severely swollen legs at her assisted living home and was supposed to be seen twice per week. Only a few times during the entire 2 months did someone come, and the person who came always gave a promise to be back later in the week or early the following week, and hardly ever returned. There were no calls to cancel ever, and my mother, who is quite disabled, went to a lot of trouble to get dressed and wait for the person who never came. She called Amedisys several times, to no avail, always told that someone would call back, which never happened. The nurse at my mother's assisted living location finally called to complain to Amedisys about patient neglect, and told me that she was hung up on. My mother also badly needed comprehensive lab work and was told it could be done through Amedisys. It was ordered and the home health care nurse took 3 vials of blood. The results were lost for a couple of weeks and not sent to the referring doctor. My brother and I must have made 10+ phone calls to try to get the results located and sent to my mother's doctor. (If we had not called, the results never would have appeared.) When the results were finally located and sent, they had my mother's last name, which is a fairly common name, badly misspelled and her date of birth was off by 100 years. Most of the results ordered were not present, and it is fair to speculate that only one of the three vials was sent. The much-needed and ordered CBC was conspicuously absent. Finally, my mother went to the emergency room of St. Joseph's Hospital, where the lab work was done and analyzed in a few hours, and indicated severely low hemoglobin. Multiple organ systems were severely compromised and she passed away two days later. Her doctor said that if the results had been supplied weeks earlier, as they should have, that interventions might have been made that would have postponed her death considerably. My advice: avoid Amedisys in Atlanta at all costs.
