The "battle cry" for FHR is "We're short staffed."The battle cry from management is never,"I'm sorry, We'll fix this" - it is "can we find your mother another place to live?"- When my mother first arrived, it was beautifully landscaped with shrubs that attracted loads of butterflies and hummingbirds. That has all been replaced with rocks. It looks terrible. Apparently the $310/mo inc doesn't go to extra staff or landscaping. - When she first arrived, it smelled of freshly baked bread and pies/cakes made from scratch. Now nothing is fresh/all frozen.- After 3 years, Dir of Nursing told my 97 yrs old mother she had to move to another room in another part of the facility because of an arbitrary rule they had changed. We refused as this room had become her home. Vicky, Director, charged us $620/mo additional plus $250/mo for supplies on top of the $7440/mo we were already paying at that time. I fought with the owner for 6 months to get these absurd charges reversed and refunded retroactively and was finally successful.My mother was admitted to Family Health after suffering a major stroke. -After PT following stroke, there was no follow thru as they stopped having a restorative care aid, no one walked with my mother because "CNA's can do it" CNAs don't have time as I told Vicky, the Director, repeatedly. I even went over her head to Axiom Healthcare (corporate owner). No one cared. Consequently, after being able to walk with a walker the length of the 4 buildings, my mother was confined to a wheelchair even though she was walking great after PT. Why get her strong enough to walk again and then no follow thru? Walking regularly would have helped her to stay strong for transfers as well. This was a huge source of frustration for her. This is not skilled nursing. They now have a restorative care aid after I complained on behalf of other residents to the owner, 5 years after the director discontinued this care.No continuity of care due to extremely high attrition on all levels of staff (director of nursing, nutrition, CNA's RN's, cooks)- Many Medication errors - Laundry damaged/clothes lost, We quickly made arrangements to pay someone else to do it.- Supplies not ordered promptly or ordered incorrectly - - Beds made with sheets that have huge stains on them or bedspreads that are torn and in poor condition.- Total failure of communication and follow thru on all levels of staff.- Questionable medical care -RN's that don't document or report to next shift / CNA's that operate sit-to-stand equipment incorrectly which could endanger my now 102 yr old mother/ medication (Percocet and others) given without family ok, Podiatrists and outside nurse practitioners gave care with bad results.- Administration and staff more concerned with how they look "on paper" for state & Medicare guidelines rather than actual patient care.- Medical equipment that needs to be repaired or replaced - Building failures/ window leaked/soaked wet towels left in window sill for 10 mos before it was fixed.- My mother's room flooded due to improper construction in the entrance to the building.No apology from FHR.- Hearing aids lost twice and damaged by staff twice in 9 mos/ Vicky, Director, said "I don't know why we lose your mom's hearing aids - we lose teeth, but not hearing aids". You lose residents' teeth???Replacing hearing aids takes 2 weeks, which means she couldn't work on her speech therapy (needed after her stroke), participate in activities or even talk to family on the phone.To add insult to injury, my mothers watch was stolen from her dresser drawer late at night as she slept one week before she died.Bottom line: You must be willing to advocate for your family member in every area at all times. What do residents do who have no one to advocate for them? Save your self a lot of needless aggravation. Find someplace else for your loved one live and/or recuperate(I completely agree with Peter G's review (see below) left in 2018. My mother was a resident at that time and what he states in his review is true.)
