Guardian, Abigail and Others:My 93-year old mother fell and broke her left ankle. She also had multiple minor fractures in right and left ribs, hip and lower back. She went trough ankle operation in Cedar Sinai. She spent 3 days in ICU and a week in a step-down unit. She felt a lot of pain; was fed through the nose and was greatly depressed. She was telling every person stepping into her room that she wanted to die. She had to be moved to rehab facility. We chose to trust Guardian Rehab to care for our mother and it was the best choice we could make. The main reason for that was Guardian's Doctor of Physical Therapy Abigail. In 2 and a half month she was able to make my mom and her broken 93-year old skeleton move again. It was nothing short of miracle. Mother could walk 200 feet with a walker under careful supervision and exercise 20 minutes on the bicycle on a daily basis. Abigail is not just an experienced doctor who loves her patients like the members of her own family. She is a gifted healer, who is in the right place to answer her true calling in life. Besides her boundless empathy and compassion for elderly people she has an amazing ability to instantly read body language and facial expression to asses the current physical and emotional state of the patient and choose the optimal level of the exercise. I was never worried about my mother training under Abigail supervision. Abigail also has a very cheerful and optimistic personality, which projects itself on the patients elevating their spirit and lightening up their mood. "Abigail" means "cause of joy" and she gives plenty of it to all of her patients. Her therapy room is always open to family members to come and observe exercise and recovery progress of their relatives. She is more than happy to give you detailed answers to all your questions and address all your concerns. She also leads the great team of therapy assistants (Timothy, Candace, Kim and Natalie). At the time of writing this review my mom is still in Guardian but instead of thinking about death she is looking forward to come home in 2-3 weeks. Guardian is the great facility, but it simply will not be the same without Abigail. As a matter of basic gratitude, I also have to mention many other great people of Guardian rehab.Business manager and insurance specialist Angelica leaves me speechless with the astronomical amount of work she does for the patient. She makes sure that the stay in rehab will be covered by insurance and there will not be a penny of out of pocket expenses. She helps to find the right doctors and make appointments. She arranges for transportation. Any question or concern you might have as a family member will be addressed by her until it is solved. She simply will see it though to the very end. She is more reliable than the sunrise. She is also the encyclopedia of all insurance matters. She educated me in many intricacies of insurance coverage. The social worker Joann is always there to help you with all your visit appointments. I am visiting mother 3 times a weak and I have not been refused an appointment even once. If I wanted I could have seen my mother 7 days a weak. Joan also takes care of all your concerns and elevates them if necessary to the very top to administrator and director of nursing Theresa.Head nurse Dulce always keeps you informed about any changes your mother can be experiencing and takes an appropriate action. She noticed an alarming drop in mother's weight, informed me and then added marinol to boost appetite as it was recommended by the supervising doctor. The drop in weight stopped. One day mom had a new neighbor, which was not in my view the good match for my mother. I expressed my concern and Dulce moved the mother into a different room in 2 hours. Dulce never fails to implement all the changes in dosages per doctor and nurse practitioner's prescriptions. She is more reliable that the sunset. There is not enough space to give all the examples of excellent care I was able to observe in more than 3 months. All the Guardian employees I had to deal with made a great impression with their professionalism: head nurses Wilma and Keola and nurses Roma, Naomi, Beth, Jose and Nathan; admissions director Aeren; director of nursing Theresa; social worker Kathlyn and information specialists Ray and Hazel; personnel that moves patients and directs visitors inside the facility - Toddy and Oliver and lobby masters Kyle, Russell and Jaeden. If your parents go through a tough time Guardian will give them the best fighting chance to recover and live longer. Other rehabs I checked reminded me of depressing nursing homes. Guardian facility looks like a temporary home away from home with extended family of people who care about you. 5-star Medicare's rating given to Guardian every year is well deserved.Forever grateful,Yuri K.8/22/2021
