I am a current resident here. I find all the staff very kind and helpful. The only problem is they are continually short staffed, especially at meal time. EVERYONE goes to the task of getting those going to the dining hall there and set up and passing trays to those eating in their rooms leaving no one to render help to those in need. I have learned you might as well forget the light being answered if it is within the period of time around meal times here. I feel there should be enough help available that there should be at least two CNA's left to take care of patient needs in the 4 halls. Next, the food served is just awful. I have lost 20 lbs since arriving here because I can't eat the food. It always sounds good on the menu but it is a GRAVE disappointment upon arrival. If it were not for the fact my children bring in food for me. I don't know what I would do. The therapy team here is very, very good! However the therapy gym is in a separate bldg and inconvenient to use on a regular basis. I have been there once to get in the parallel bars. The bars are very flimsy and cheaply constructed. Therefore my therapy takes place in my room and also in the hallway. But I am happy to say I'm making good progress. Since I am a retired PT, I feel my evaluations are valid since I have also worked in nursing homes in the past. This is an old building and rather depressing to me. It is currently under bankruptcy proceedings but there is supposedly a new owner on the horizon who most likely will empty it and bulldoze it down as it would be pouring money into a bottomless pan. This week we experienced a torrential rain for several hours here in Austin. Two rooms at the far end of one of the halls were flooded with water. Several aids were diverted there to take care of controlling the flooding and getting the residents out and any belongings that were in the floor out. This building sits on a valuable piece of property and a new owner may see that the land is more valuable than the revenue from the nursing home.
