Life Care Center of Ooltewah

Would give zero if I could. My grandmother was placed here and after 4 days (of lockdown due to coronavirus which meant no visitors) of no baths, no one helping her eat, no change of clothes, no updates, no rehab she was promised... etc we pulled some heavy duty strings and got her out of there. She would not have lived there long. She wasn’t taken care of and she was giving up. It was the worst feeling in the world knowing we couldn’t be there for her and help her the way she should’ve been taken care of. We felt helpless. She is now back with my grandfather and finally being taken care of. Do NOT send your loved ones here.

This facility is absolutely stunning. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The rehab team is unbelievable! I just can’t say enough about this wonderful place. If the need arises for you to need skilled nursing, this is the place! I highly recommend this wonderful facility.

I placed my grandmother at this location after her stroke for rehab knowing we might have to extend for longer term care. While it is a beautiful facility and a few of their staff are very nice especially Nurse Doug who my grandmother adorned, overall I don't recommend this facility and don't have anything good to say. No one really seems to care about the care plan set, they don't communicate, they failed to give my grandmother pain medication as they said they were doing, they wouldn't get her out of bed, or encourage her to eat. Overall they just failed to give her the attention she needed. When you would go to the nurses stand for help you were ignored. I would have to say can someone assist me. Their personal conversations seemed more important. They would just sit while call buttons rang. I called the executive director twice and left messages. I never received call backs and she was rarely in when I visited to try to speak with her. I even told the Nurse Manager and Social Worker that I demanded she call me. Nothing. I think this is a major lack of staffing and leadership issue. It is time to get a new executive director. I am a firm believer that leaders lead and associates follow. Leaders are a direct reflection of their staff. It is amazing to me having moved her to Life Care of Collegedale the night and day difference. On the other hand I highly recommend Life Care of Collegedale. They take time with her. They have her up every morning. They get her out of her room. They listen to her needs. They place large bibs on her. She eats with other people in the dining room which I begged Ooltewah to do and they never did. They are friendly and attentive. They discovered a major issue with her medication right off the bat, and I could barely get the doctor at Life Care of Ooltewah to take the time to review anything. It was amazing the responds on the NextDoor when someone inquired about this location and many wrote about the same issues we had. Please do not place your love ones in their care. Also, a private room is over $3,000 per month more than Collegedale, but Life Care Collegedale has clearly been renovated. So I pose the question what am I paying for? It is clearly not service. I share this so many others don't go through the same experience my family did. I wish I had asked around before placing her at the Ooltewah location in the first place.
