Our mom was a resident at the location on 20th street in Lubbock for almost two years through November 2019 before she passed away. While the home decor and location are great, I would not recommend this facility for your loved one. There is staff on the premises 24 hours a day, however there is a lot of turnover on the staff, especially for the weekend shift. The owner scrambles to keep people on the staff, where one person often has to work a double shift to keep it staffed. I can easily count 7 staff members (probably more) who have come and gone while Mom was there. At least one of those staff members should retire herself as well - mid to older 70's and not as compassionate as she should be to the residents. While some meals are home cooked, most are sandwiches or frozen meals, such as fish sticks, corn dogs, pizza, etc. There is never enough ice (ice maker in refrig is broken, new separate ice maker quit working...I can't tell you how many bags of ice we took over there. There are no planned activities, besides a gathering room to watch TV or you can spend the time in your room. A mutual friend to the owner and myself mentioned that she had visited Tanglewood with a relative who was interested in starting an assisted living, had met our mom, and she had loved "Music Time". There is no "Music Time" at this facility, but I'm sure it was made to appear that way. While the house is picked up and clean for the most part, the community bathroom is not. It needs a good sprucing. When our mother passed away, we made arrangements for her furniture to be picked up. I informed one of the staff on the following Sunday after her passing, that we would make arrangements as soon as possible, and I followed up with a phone call the next day, Monday, letting them know it would be picked up Wednesday am. However, when I called to remind them Wednesday morning, the furniture had already been hauled off - no courtesy call - nothing! We are talking 4 days, Sunday to Wednesday into a new month and the owner didn't have the decency to contact us. She had a new resident moving into the room mom occupied and needed to update the carpet, so had everything removed. Mom's furniture was nice - matching dresser and chest of drawers and end table, a large overstuffed chair, and we had bought matching accent chairs with a table in between...all taken without permission. We also noticed some clothes were missing when we went through them. We would have moved mom before her passing, however it was difficult with her dementia and she didn't like change. While the staff administers all the medications for the residents, we had issues with the dispensing of mom's pain medications. We asked that they keep a log, as the staff was not giving her her pain meds timely - several times missing a dose or more in one day - also, what happened with all the leftover meds that were not given to her each month...she was allowed up to 6 pain pills a day...lucky to get 3, we harped on her getting at least 4 and occasionally she received 5. Each month there were at least 30 pills left over...what happened to those each month? They stopped keeping a log, even though we asked for one. We heard from at least two staff members at the time about the lack or incorrect dispensing of pain meds for residents, but will leave it at that. It truly should be addressed.
