The Atrium of Bellmead

The Atrium has been home to my mother for the last 3 1/2 years. They take such good care of her that I don't worry about her anymore. It makes me feel good when she is at my house for a few hours and then she tells me she is ready to go back to the nursing home. The nursing staff knows when my mother is not feeling well. They will call the family and let us know that they have already placed a call to her personal physician. The place is very pretty and does not "smell" like some other facilities. Everyone is friendly and smiles at you as soon as you walk through the front door. If I have a complaint or suggestion it is taken seriously and they try to resolve it in a timely manner. They encourage family and friends to visit anytime. Cameras are even allowed in the rooms. Of course my mother has her favorite staff who "baby" her but the rest of the staff tend to her needs too. She has had a couple of close calls with her health but the competent staff have reacted professionally to each situation and made sure she received the treatment she needed. My mother is in the hospital as I am writing this and will soon be discharged back to the Atrium. The nurse Sandra was worried about my mother last Saturday and called to inform me that she was trying to call her primary care physician concerning her increased drowsiness, elevated heart rate and she just didn't like the way my mother looked. 911 was called and my mother was transported to the local ER where she was admitted for a 6 night stay at the hospital. Another incident is when Leigh Anne the driver was taking my mom to an appointment where I was to meet her. Leigh Anne called me as I was on my way to the physician's appt. to inform me that my mother "just didn't look right to her. She had some type of spell." I am a Registered nurse and once I saw my mother I knew we had to get her to the local ER . She was diagnosed with a mini stroke and spent several days at the hospital before returning to the Atrium. These are just a couple of examples of the caring, competent staff. No nursing home is perfect. My mother has been in a couple of others and by far my family and I would choose the Atrium. As I had stated earlier it means a lot to my family when mother tells us that she is ready to go back to the nursing home after visiting with family.
