The Cloisters of DeLand

Horrible inexperienced administration with poor communication with family members of residents. The tower has a roach infestation problem that never seems to go away due to sporadic spraying of individual apartments instead of treating the whole buidling. During the pandemic nothing was done to enable visits even at a distance. Now even after vaccines are in place with most residents, visitation is still very restricted and appointments must be made to visit in the lobby only. Some of the residents haven't had any family members allowed in their apartments in over a year now and you can imagine the emotional toll it has taken on them. You are at their mercy with restrictions/rules during this pandemic despite the State of Florida ordering to allow family members as designated care givers. Supposed to be faith based-doesn't seem to matter and really don't act like it.

I am disgusted by the administration at this place. There is such a lack of communication between staff and with family members. The nursing director, Lindsey, is impossible to get a hold of. I was there in person requesting to speak to her and she did not see me. I was told to call her (although I drove 45 minutes to be there). Every time I call, I get transferred into circles. I can't say much for the nursing staff, as I do not know them. They seem nice and empathetic to my situation. However, the administration makes me feel like my grandmother is just a number and a spot they are waiting to fill once she passes. So sad and upsetting. For the 10k we spend a month on this place, they should be bending over backwards to help us.

My mother moved into the main building about 4 months ago. So far, other than breakfast, the food is cold and the building appears to have an infestation of german cockroaches. You cannot go into my mothers kitchen or bathroom without encountering several of them. Management does not seem concerned. The doctor's office staff is rude and doesn't even know what basic medications are. I would strongly advise doing your research into other facilities in this area.
