The Oaks at Whitaker Glen - Mayview

My aunt was here for a week for rehabilitation after a hospital visit. The practices at this facility are not sanitary, to say the least. The whole time she was there, the facility had no hot water. Residents were given warm (not hot) water in a plastic basin to wash up with. During the whole week she did not have the opportunity to have a shower. There was also an issue with the water pressure in the sink, and no hand sanitizer in the room. Additionally, the sheets weren't changed the whole week while she was there. This seems to be unsanitary, especially when someone comes to the facility with an open wound due to a procedure done in the hospital. When my mother called to inquire, she was met with staff with cavalier attitude that lacked compassion. This is totally unacceptable. Don't send your loved ones here, even for a short time.

My family member was admitted to The Oaks after a hospitalization for rehab. They were admitted pleasantly confused, active and alert after spending 3 weeks in the hospital for a stroke. They left the hospital walking, eating/drinking, taking pills whole, and continent of both bowel and bladder, bright & vibrant - assisting to bathe and grooming themselves. Within 3 days of arriving, they were no longer bright or vibrant, diapered (soiled every time we were there) and we were told it was "fatigue" and "normal" for stroke patients - even though this was not the case for the 96 hours prior to discharge that I spent straight with my family member. My family member was not given medications at all. In fact, after basically being unresponsive all day (as we found documented on the records) the medical team did nothing and got mad when we asked for a set of vital signs. But when we called about 3-4 hours prior to arriving to visit, we were told they were "doing well" and had a 'good morning". Then when we asked about the previous night, the day nurse claimed "I don't work nights, so I don't know". If my family had not visited and found them unresponsive, the medical team there was going to do NOTHING. We demanded transport to the hospital. Upon the hospital's review of the records, they had falsely documented medication administration. After being admitted to the hospital on Friday night, all meds were documented as given for Saturday BEFORE THE DAY EVEN ARRIVED. Do NOT send your family here. I will be filing complaints with Medicare and DSS as soon as they open on Monday. This does not include how dirty and disgusting this place is. The rooms and furniture are horrific. We were trying to overlook the peeling paint and dingy furniture, hoping for a good staff but we did not get that all. Please do not send anyone you know to this horrible facility.
