The Veraden

We moved my uncle out of the Veraden after only 6 days! I am warning anyone considering the Veraden to do research and reach out to families who have good things to say about other facilities. The Nextdoor app is very informative and I discovered I am not alone in my experience at the Veraden. My uncle spent a great deal of money moving in and now they will not refund his money. We moved him home with us after we discovered a medication aide was falsely documenting giving him his medication. We were suspicious of this activity from the beginning; my uncle is a Vietnam Veteran and has Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia, he needs his medication in order to function. I met with the nurse on two occasions to discuss many concerns. I told the nurse on day three I did not trust leaving him in their establishment. His movement was declining every day. I received a call from the nurse and the executive director on our last day; they wanted me to know they confronted the aide and she admitted to not giving him his medications, she was "written up". Management on all levels is incompetent. I could write a novel of his experience at the Veraden, it started out disappointing on day one and turned into a nightmare by the end. The Veraden has not acknowledged this situation appropriately. We did not receive the care plan we paid for and my uncle was not receiving his medications. My uncle was under the care of an establishment that Falsely documents giving medications. I would think that would be enough justification to warrant refunding his money. **To the Veraden: Please do not refer me to contact Jennifer Rose, regional director, she is unprofessional and refers us back to the executive director who is unable to answer any questions.

My mom has been at the Veraden for 2+ years. They have extreme issues with their cooks, wait staff and food. Last night, they were out of almost all food and some residents were not fed at all. This is a lovely facility but they have some major issues with meals, which by the way, they charge $12.00 for each. Obviously, these residents could eat quite well for that amount at a restaurant but they know they have most of them captive and they are charged whether they eat or not. Disgraceful way to treat our moms and dads!
