Our Experience with Wheelock Terrace Buck Road Hanover, NHThis "Review" is submitted by me, the daughter of a resident who has made Wheelock Terrace (in the Gardens, memory care) her home since the summer of 2020.The resident, my Mom, and her husband, my Dad, lived in my home three years prior to admission, and during that time, chose to stay at Wheelock Terrace on three occasions of two weeks each. The following assessment is based upon the above experiences.--KINDNESS is the best word to describe the gift of the Wheelock Terrace team to its residents. RELATIONSHIP building is evident. It is apparent that aids to the residents see their career as more then a job.--Wheelock Terrace is residentially located in the quality town of Hanover, NH and near an excellent hospital.--A fine, attractive and welcoming building, well designed, with the interior decoration statement being classy and cheerful in presentation--Clean and well maintained both in the resident rooms and all group areas, with a ‘newness” appearance at all times--Financial matters are handled pleasantly, with an attitude that all are working together to make it possible for the resident to be there. Fees and dates are clearly defined, and judging from our experience, are honored. Fees are definitely appropriate. Quality is evident.--There is attention to palatable, healthful meals with variety, and fine presentation, in lovely dining areas; willingness to adjust for dietary restrictions; options given for residents to make their own menu choices; and considerate seating dining arrangement forresident preferences--Flexibility for residents desire to have their own furniture and personal items which may be meaningful to connect with their past; staff is eager to help facilitate getting those items into the spacious room; windows allow sunlight on lightly colored walls--Considerate in choosing a room for the resident that will help with adjustment such as a view that will orient once the door is opened. --Attendant stations nearby; monitoring of the resident’sneeds is ongoing; staff are always paying attention and give help.--Directors, business personnel, receptionists, nurses, therapists, staff, aids, and activity facilitators frequently come to visit the resident (with COVID guidelines observed). There is an overall “friendly” air. --Safety reassurance comes from seeing the overall cleanliness, as well as the guidelines for COVID being honored, in general and by each person.--Multiple activities are offered daily and residents are assisted in their attendance and in the activity if needed. The activities address the variety of needs and interests of residents—games, cooking, crafts, exercise, music, entertainment, shows, beauty salon, etc.--A nurse oversees care such as patient’s pharmaceutical medications, medical conditions and evaluations. Family is notified when any change in resident health is noted. The cooperation and communication with the resident’s medical doctors goes smoothly. --Many attendants brainstorm to come up with creative ways to redirect and relax a resident with memory difficulty. -- When The Family asks for a "status of the resident report", it is detailed, (showing knowledge of the resident’s personality and quirks) and is given promptly. --The team at Wheelock assist and encourage and help The Family to interact with the resident, whether personal visit is appropriate, or by phone, ZOOM , or Portal, or US mail (considering COVID times).--Suggestions are taken with interest, communication is welcomed, problem solving is an open discussion, questions are answered thoroughly, and kindness is evident at every level.Family are heard and respected. In summary, the Wheelock Terrace experience is ideal. It is providing a life we had not dared to expect for this timeof elder care and memory loss. It blesses the resident andthe whole Family. We are deeply appreciative!
