Home Care in Anchorage, Alaska
Anchorage is the largest city in the state of Alaska, with an estimated population of 288,000 according to the U.S. census. The city is a popular choice for retirement for Alaskan seniors, and 10% of the residents are aged 65 and older.
Anchorage has a SeniorScore of 68, which is four points lower than the national average, but 15 points higher than the Alaska state average. The SeniorScore is a measure of how livable a location is for retirees based on four categories: General Quality of Life, Health & Safety, Finances and Recreation & Leisure. Anchorage scored 64 for Finances due to the city's generally low taxes. Its next highest-scoring category was Health & Safety, with a rating of 62, thanks to the presence of eight hospitals, 328 pharmacies and a high number of Medicare-registered physicians.
The city scored 59 for General Quality of Life, largely because of its high population density and the short summers and long, cold winters seen in the state. Anchorage's lowest-scoring category is Recreation & Leisure. While the city has far more amenities than other parts of Alaska, including 32 parks and 18 malls, its culture and entertainment scene is not as busy as what's found in more central states. Anchorage is a college town and home to the University of Alaska-Anchorage and the Alaska Pacific University. The city offers the best of both worlds, being close to the stunning Kenai Peninsula, yet having a bustling downtown and plenty of amenities.
