Shreveport’s SeniorScore is 78, which is significantly higher than both the state and national average of 72. This is largely attributed to its wonderful climate and recreation options. Shreveport scored highest in the category of General Quality of Life for its ideal mean temperatures, mild winters and warm summers. In addition, the city is relatively dense but still offers residents average air quality. The city also scored high in the category of Finances for its low property taxes, affordable state income taxes and very low health care costs. Seniors in Shreveport can take advantage of 17 nearby golf courses, including the East Ridge Country Club and Lakeside Park Golf Course. Alternatively, they can spend a day outside strolling along nature paths at one of the 30 parks within close proximity to the city center, such as Columbia Park or the Betty Virginia Park. Seniors who prefer window shopping can visit one of 103 grocery stores or 27 malls located nearby, including the Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets.
Seniors are drawn to Shreveport for its long list of amenities but also its low cost of living that's reflected in its affordable home care costs. With a handful of hospitals within the city limits and great resources for independent seniors like the Caddo Council on Aging, seniors have access to everything that they need to flourish in Shreveport.
The following guide takes a closer look at some of these additional senior resources and carefully outlines the low cost of home care in Shreveport.
