CareOne at Wall

My mother encountered a RAT in her bathroom. She became so distraught that a kind staff member physically carried her to another room. What does this say about CareOne? Filthy and poorly managed. My mother complained to me that her room was filthy and I kind of brushed it off. Well, she wasn't kidding. WHile many caregivers there are kind and attentive, the filth, lack of available equipment and poor administration negate the good of the hardworking caregivers. Shame on those responsible for the horror my mother endured.

My dad was a patient in sub acute therapy in Care One Wall and later returned as a hospice patient. The therapist, nursing staff, aides were most professional, respectful and encouraging to my dad. He was always well kept as well as his bed and room . I was most pleased with the care my father was given and am most appreciative to all the angels that work at Care One in Wall.

My aunt has been in CareOne at Wall for over a month. First she was in rehab then her condition worsened to the point that she is now on hospice care. I don’t even know where to start to describe the amazing care she is getting there. We looked at a few facilities and decided to keep her in Wall because of all of the wonderful nurses, aides, rehab professionals, speech pathologist, social workers, etc.. in Wall. Their compassion and expertise are exceptional. The facility is bright and clean and everyone always has a smile on their face with a positive attitude. They also have excellent Covid protocols in place. Our family has a great deal of experience with long term care facilities and this facility is one of the best we have seen. Shout outs go to CJ, Angie, Tiara, Frank, Amanda, Ashley, Billy, Carmen and anyone else I may have inadvertently missed! The facility is so well staffed it’s hard to keep track of everyone! Thank you’s go to everyone for keeping my aunt comfortable, clean and pain free; and helping us as we go through this difficult time. CareOne at Wall is an exceptional facility and I highly recommend it.

I feel like I made the worst mistake of my life sending my loved one to this place. They were incompetent. Everything that appeared well wasn't well. God only knows what was happening. I will never recommend this place to anyone. Even the physicians are incompetent. I regret not demanding my loved one be sent to the hospital instead trusting and having faith that as soon as I could get her out of there things would be ok. One minute I was told one thing and then the next it was a total different story. She had a wound that had turned worse and noone told me. She had swelling (lymphedema) and they were giving her diuretics which only induced her kidney failure. I had to ask for care for her. Things that were common sense. I spoke to my aunt 1 hour before they called me telling me she went unresponsive And not even 10 min had passed from that call they told me she was gone. Please, Please, Please do not send your loved one here. I regret this place every second of every minute. Im over 1,000 miles away and it angers me that I couldnt be there to see what was happening. My aunt was walking and independent before her hospital stay and when she got to this place she became almost bedbound and incontinent. I told her to refuse the lasix and next thing I know they came and crushed her pills as if she wouldnt know the difference. They would leave her in a chair for hours with a wound. At this point I talk to her every day and tried leaning on faith that it would all be over as soon as I could just get there to get her out of there. If you have a loved on please dont send them here and if you do or have no choice please stay on top of them every single day. Follow your gut if you feel there is a problem and get them out of there.

So bad I don't even no where to start.

While the PT team is very good, the nursing staff often seemed befuddled. They rarely referred to chart notes and seemed clueless about their patients medical history. No one seemed to know mom was a heart patient with diabetes and her sugar (while monitor sporadically) varied wildly from 30 - 500+. While they claim to be equipped to care for people with dementia, they clearly are not. They relied on mom to confirm changes to her diet or whether or not she had attended PT that day. No one even checked in periodically and response rate time to the call button was very slow. I often arrived to find my mother sitting in soiled clothing. Food was often cold. The level of care depended on who was working on any given day. While everyone was nice enough and would be helpful when directed to tend to an issue, it ought not be the non-trained family member doing the directing! Perhaps my biggest complaint was that the head nurse attended a scheduled family meeting without having even read my mother's chart. She told us "she is doing well" despite the fact that her sugar had dropped so low that she was non-responsive a few days earlier and she made it off a locked unit to the front door in her slippers to leave the day before. If your loved one cannot fend for themselves, do not leave them at CareOne unattended.

This place LITERALLY tried to kill my grandfather. He's on comfort care with pneumonia, ON CHRISTMAS EVE, on his very first arrival date from the hospital. I went to visit him early this evening, I stayed until visiting hours were over and then left. HOWEVER..... my mother and stepfather were on their way.But they didn't know that. I gave my mother the security code to the elevator, and what did my mother and stepfather find???Nobody. Nobody working the floor, the nurses station abandoned. But when they went to my grandfather's room there was my grandfather.... lying bare on his bed, no clothes, no blankets, no comfort, and with the WINDOW OPEN!!! It is 35 degrees outside!!! They spoke with a cleaning lady, she was the only person they could find and she barely spoke English. They covered him up and closed the window Then they ran home I went back there to confront them then called the police. The police came and investigated, my grandfather pointed and told the police they opened the window. He was crying and squeezing my hand for help. This LITERALLY just happened. On Christmas Eve. I'll be back all night tonight checking on him, and then getting him the hell out of there. If you LOVE your loved ones, DON''T EVER GO TO THIS PLACE. 12/29/2018: They desperately want me to change this review.. okay I will. Now that my grandfather has passed. This place is horrific. He was too weak to move, so I had to pretty much move in and stay by my grandfather's side 24/7 to ensure he was cared for. The first night, after the initial review, the nurses said they had to change him and asked me to step out of the room. I said absolutely not. They looked at each other and then tried using their body to hide the completely soiled diaper and 6" off padding under his butt to soak up excess urine. They were very harsh moving him as he screamed out in pain, even though I was standing right there. Then when I saw he was very fidgety I went to the nurse and asked when he was given his medication last. He was discharged from the hospital on ativan and morphine. They had no medication to give him!!! They never planned on giving him any. They had to call someone at 1 a.m. for medication and I held his hands for an additional 2 hours while he groaned in pain and fidgeted with his blankets until it finally arrived. The next few days were hell. The nurses are cold as ice and cruel to their patients. If you need one at night they are nowhere to be found. I firmly believe they tried to kill him. Why? I have no idea. But thank God my mother and stepfather came late that night and saw what they did. He is too good of a man to die like that, nobody deserves to die like that. Like I said before, if you love your loved one, and want them to be cared for, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO SEND THEM.
