La Costa Glen

We were thrilled when we moved our parents into La Costa Glen, Independent Living. The facilities are beautiful, the food and food service is high quality, and their apartment was very comfortable. Just beyond three years after they moved in, we were informed we needed to move our father into memory care. At the time we moved them in, the Glenbrook facility was being built. What we had no way of realizing at the time is the total number of beds for assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care is a tiny percentage of the number of total residents at La Costa Glen, living independently. We were told we needed to move him immediately (he was not wandering or any trouble in any way and we had our own help for him). We were told he would need to be moved to Silverado "temporarily," with no idea when they would be able to accommodate him AND it's in the next city (~3 miles away). My mother had a broken ankle at the time and was unable to even drive to see him. They were then married 61 years and never apart. If your attraction to La Costa Glen is the ability for your parents to live out their lives there, moving to higher levels of care as needed, don't count on it. Further, my parents were good residents, complete non-complainers, and my siblings and I were very happy until this happened. The directors were not even nice about it. I would NOT recommend La Costa Glen if your main reason is care for life.
