Santa Teresita

A precious family member was moved from a hospital to the skilled care unit called the Manor. I cannot tell you how outstanding the care of the patients, family members is and respect for each other is so apparent each day and in every way. After all, the staff and Sisters are fulfilling a VOCATION not an OCCUPATION. This is the summation of treatment ,care and love displayed toward all that come in contact with the staff and angelic Sisters. They are not just administrators of a facility, but work daily with the patients. Our family member could never have been comfortable in any place without the sisters that she had known for years. You cannot make a mistake if you choose Santa Teresita. As an out of state visitor, I already inquired as to my ability to come to Santa Teresita if I should need care! Barbara from Arkansas

I wish I could give this wonderful place 10 stars. Recently we had to move my 90 year old, quadriplegic mom, into Santa Teresita because my 90 year old dad couldn't care for her anymore. My dad didn't want to give her care to just anyone. My dad gave us a long list of must haves and Santa Teresita was the only one that ticked off all the requirements. We toured the whole place with dad so he could see for himself that it was the right place. It smelled nice and was impeccably clean. The rooms are cozy and warm feeling and don't look like hospital rooms. I can't say enough about the wonderful care mom gets. She is always clean, nicely dressed, and they do her hair so it looks pretty. Whenever mom has any problems they let us know right away and see to the issue. The nuns, nurses and other staff are sweet, helpful and kind! Mom loves it there. Dad said he's glad he doesn't have to worry about her.

I wish I could put a zero if it was available.My mother stayed at that horrible nursing home. She was there at Santa Teresita for 9 months She was diagnosed pancreatic cancer. Most people have dementia. Their was only one CNA ( certified nursing assistant) and one LVN for most of days and nights. It look liked they were warehousing the demented patients. Their idea of socializing and keeping them occupied, was to take them out of their rooms, put them in wheel chairs and let them loose in the hallway. This is horrible to see them like this! Because my mom had pancreatic cancer, she developed diabetes. One night this male LVN who worked the night shift gave my mom an over dose of insulin by accident that almost killed her. They were trying to bring her blood sugar up. It took a long time before they got it up. She developed chest pain ( an insulin overdose can give you a heart attack and kill you on the spot)The nursing home doctor would come only once a month.When my mother's legs Developed edema (swell up) he didn't even come to examine my mom. He ordered a medication called Lasix to bring down her edema. He gave a regular dose which is usually 20mg. But because he didn't examine her or check her blood pressure, he didn't even know that her blood pressure was low, so he should have not given her that dose. It lowered her blood pressure even more of course and she began to have chest pain and was almost at the point of having a heart attack. Had it not been for this LVN, Nick who was more knowledgeable than the others, gave her nitroglycerin or she would have died. At that point I knew I had to hire 24 hrs nursing care service. So hopefully they wouldn't do anymore harm to her. I hired a private doctor. My mom needed a real doctor.Let me tell you I payed $35,000.00 a month. Including Santa Teresita which was a whopping $7,500.00 per month!Because she could no longer sit up or move around so she developed a huge bed sore! The nursing staff are not suppose to let that happened!!! The nursing facility is supposed to provide prevention for this. They are supposed turn her from side to side , but it was to late she had already developed it. I'm am so angry at them for neglecting her of care that should have been provided to her! Later the order was given to change my mother's position every two hours. I and the caregiver had to call the staff or go out into the unit to try and get someone to help reposition her. This was a two person task. So if no one was around, we had to it. This happened a lot.Her pain was getting worse so the private doctor increased her pain medication.It would take up to 25 mins for them to give it to her when we called for it. I began to knock heads with the staff. I know they were getting sick of me but I didn’t care. I was going to make sure my mother’s pain was under control.They only thing my mother asked of me was not to let her die in pain. I was going to make sure that would happen!One day a slew of people including the director sister Rosario, the nursing director, sister Theresa, the horrible social worker Joy even the guard went into a room with the others. Sister Rosario wanted me to go into the room with them, I did not want to, but when walked the other direction. The sister had her laptop in her arms and brushed me with it making me stop. I felt intimidated. Knowing them I thought I better go in or they might do something to me since I knew they were fed up with me.They started by telling me they had reported me to adult protective services. Can you believe it!! They accused me of not allowing the staff to provide treatment for my mother! They wanted to get rid of me! Thank goodness for the 24hr care givers knew that was not true. I think they forgot about them. I felt harassed They must have found out what they put me through was illegal because the next there behavior to a 180 degrees. They came to check on my mother at least every hour, there was no more delay with her medication, 2 CNA’s came every 2 hours without prompting.when my mother finally pass away she was in no painYes I took legal action against them and won. This was a sad moment though, because no amount of money can make up for the horrific care my mother received there.
