WHAT A HELL HOLE Why can't I give less than one star??? I would not suggest that you even board your dog here. My good friend has a severe lung ailment that required Intravenous Antibiotics three times a day. These very strong medications come with a ton of side effects like nausea, migraines, cramping, fatigue and pain and require a myriad of other drugs to manage the treatment and make it bearable. Doctors at Baycare sent her to Southern Pines so that she would have the proper medications and IV management she needed for two months. They spent 3 days coordinating the medications, information and treatment plans to Southern Pines and were assured everything was in place before the almost 2 hour ambulance ride there. They spent a huge amount of time arranging and timing her medications at Bayfront and ensuring that she would not miss any of her medications and treatments once she arrived, because failure to take them would cause lots of complications like excruciating pain and vomiting. When she arrived she had to run the gauntlet of 8 patients of the facility at the front door all smoking cigarettes which caused her lungs to react in a coughing fit. The staff had no idea who she was, why she was there and had no medications for her. They had no idea what they were supposed to be doing. So, they wheeled her into a dirty hospital room with another patient with contagious pneumonia, the absolute worst thing you could do for her lungs. They told her that she had to keep a close eye on her things because people there will steal all of her stuff. They counted her clothes so they would know if any were stolen. They gave her no water, noting to drink, no food and no care. They left her in this room for 3 hours with no care while she started to panic about not getting her medications. She started to have the symptoms of not receiving her pain and anti-nausea drugs. She tried getting people's attention, but there was nobody around. When she finally did catch someone, explained how important it is that she keep on her medication regiment and eat something, they yelled at her that she wasn't missing anything. After 4 hours they brought her a scoop of cold instant mash potatoes and some old looking cottage cheese, but no fork to eat it and nothing to drink, still. After five hours, she tried to use the restroom even though it was very hard to walk. The toilet was overflowing with feces and the bathroom was disgusting. When she complained, they told her just to flush it, but the toilet was broken. They told her that they would have someone fix it tomorrow. In shock, in pain, very hungry and on the verge of a full panic attack, she pulled her possessions under the blanket with her and tried to calm herself. About two hours into fighting off a full panic attack, she was attacked by another patient that was allowed to wander into her room. This person jumped on her bed and straddled her, was talking crazy and pulling on her clothes. She started screaming and crying and staff came. The person threatened to kill her, the staff and everyone in the facility. When she called me, I could barely understand what she was saying because she was crying, could not catch her breath and was in a panic. It took me almost two hours to get to her. When I arrived, the staff was absolutely no help, pointed me in her direction and at first refused to allow us to file the report about the attack. There was a patient passed out laying on the couch in the waiting room. The crazy person that attacked her and threatened to kill everybody was still wandering around because they accept crazy dangerous and violent people even though they are a "non-restraint" facility. Meaning, they can't stop them from attacking other patients. They acted like they didn't give a damn. At 3:00am I removed her from that horror show and took her home without any medications. She had not received a single bit of "care" or medicine the entire time she had been there. She had to be taken to the emergency room to receive immediate treatment and was admitted into the hospital to address the harm caused by Southern Pines lack of care. If you really don't care about your loved one, send them to Southern Pines. If you have a rich relative and you are in the will, send them to southern pines. If you have an animal that needs to be put down, send them to Southern Pines. Get the picture?
