Wingate at Beacon

My Mother was a resident at Wingate at Beacon for a year. We regret ever having brought her there. On two occasions, I found her in her bed, doubled over with pain and fever. After insisting she be brought to an emergency room, the hospital doctors found she was dehydrated and had a urinary tract infection. On the third emergency room visit, my Mom was diagnosed with cellulitis in both legs. At that point, we moved Mom to another facility where her care was excellent.

My Aunt has been here for several years. I visited with her regularly prior to COVID and I’m her Health care Proxy. She suffered a seizure during a trip out of the facility for a medical appointment. No one from the facility phoned me to tell me he was being taken to the hospital and was eventually admitted! Some unnamed nurse claims to have tried to reach me which is shameful. I found out from a unit manager 10 hours later that she was in the hospital ! I’m going to file a complaint with NYS DOH. Also- Wingate Beacon refuses to expand their hours of visitation even though COVID positivity rate has dropped to near non-existent in recent weeks. The visiting hours are M-F 10~5 only, making it impossible for those of us who work F/T. The nursing high turnover rate at this facility is very concerning

It's been more than four years since I chose Windham for my rehab experience during an acute case of sciatica. The events of my stay continue to haunt me. My time spent there has not been easy to forget, from my first night when I had to sleep partly on a chair and partly on the bed because the bed was broken, until the day I decided I'd had enough and aborted my stay. When I was moved to another room, the bed was more broken than the first. Maintenance was supposed to have fixed it, but whenever I shifted the bed leaned to one side. My pain always intensified at night, and I had to wait for the only nurse on duty to respond to my request for pain medication. She had to wait for a nursing supervisor for cold packs which always took hours before one was obtained. When I called the nurse because I had chest pain and was concerned about another possible heart attack, the nurse never responded. When I finally resorted to calling 911, the administrator of the Rehab center came to my room and angrily chastised me. He never addressed the failure of his staff to expeditiously respond to my call. After that incident, my daily exercise treatment routine was greatly reduced. The menus I ordered NEVER had all of the items, according to the printed menu. Sometimes what I received was nothing of what I ordered. I had to request that housekeeping clean my bathroom. Once, I had to approach housekeeping when I heard him outside my front door. The only bright spot was a few kind and understanding nursing aids. Wingate remains in my
