I took my sister to Haywood House in May 2020. I also took her bedroom suit which included a good mattress. In a Hospice visit in June 2021, I seen where my sister's mattress was gone and had been replaced by a piece of foam. The foam pad and underlying box springs were soiled completely through. The staff and management could not explain what had happened to the mattress.I filed a complaint with NC Health and Human Services, who turned the complaint over to Haywood County Dept. of Social Services. The Adult Home Specialist with Social Services found Haywood House in violation of:1. A standard deficiency of having my sister sleep on a mattress (piece of foam & box springs) that were not cleaned or sanitized.2. A Type B violation of failure to maintain my sister's room in an orderly manner, free of obstructions and hazards detrimental to safety and welfare. My sister had 4 known falls, 2 requiring trips to the hospital emergency room during May and June 2021. I was thankfully able to move my sister to another facility in July 2021.

Do not make this a first choice for family or loved one. These types of facilities serve a needed purpose, but this is very poorly run, has inadequate and uneducated staffing, no accountability in management and bordering on fraudulent accounting system. The people you are forced to deal with are unable or unwilling to actually assist with a problem. I was grateful and relieved to finally take my brother out of this facility. I absolutely do not recommend.

Do not send your loved one here. My loved went into the place in great physical health. He left for the hospital 3 months later due to severe dehydration. The complications may kill him.
